Disable, uninstall, or hide Talk & Comment

How to turn off the floating recorder, remove the extension, or route student users through an adult for support.

Last updated June 1, 2026

Use this guide when the floating recorder is in the way, a teacher wants to pause TAC, or a school needs a student-safe support path.

Hide the floating recorder

If the recorder appears on a page where you do not need it:

  1. Open the Talk & Comment extension popup.
  2. Look for the site or recording visibility controls.
  3. Turn off the recorder for the current site if that option is available.
  4. Refresh the page.

If your school manages the extension, some visibility controls may be controlled by IT policy.

Temporarily disable the extension

  1. Open chrome://extensions.
  2. Find Talk & Comment.
  3. Toggle the extension off.
  4. Refresh any open Google Docs, Slides, Classroom, or LMS pages.

Turn it back on from the same page when you want to record again.

Uninstall the extension

  1. Open chrome://extensions.
  2. Find Talk & Comment.
  3. Select Remove.
  4. Confirm the removal.

Removing the extension stops browser recording and inline-player rendering, but existing TAC links may still open in the browser.

Student support routing

Students should not need to contact TAC directly for routine classroom support. If a student is stuck:

  • ask the teacher first
  • ask a parent or guardian when the account/device is personal
  • ask the school IT team when the device is managed

Teachers and school admins can contact TAC support with the device type, browser, school-managed status, and a screenshot of the problem.
