School IT setup for managed Chromebooks

Admin allowlist and permission checks for deploying Talk & Comment on school-managed Chrome devices.

Last updated June 1, 2026

Use this checklist when Talk & Comment is deployed on school-managed Chrome devices or when teachers cannot record because district policies block the extension.

Extension allowlist

Allow the Talk & Comment Chrome extension in the Google Admin console:

  • Extension ID: djnhkfljnimcpelfndpcjcgngmefaobl
  • Install source: Chrome Web Store
  • Recommended policy: allow or force-install for the teacher organizational unit first

Start with teachers before force-installing for students. Many schools only need students to listen to TAC links, which does not require the extension.

Permissions to allow

Teachers need:

  • microphone permission in Chrome
  • extension access on Google Docs, Slides, Classroom, Meet, and your LMS if used
  • access to talkandcomment.com
  • permission to open TAC player links from student devices

If teachers use managed Chromebooks, confirm the microphone is not blocked by device policy.

Network and filtering checks

Allow:

  • TAC player pages shared from talkandcomment.com
  • audio file requests initiated by those player pages

If playback fails only on the school network, test the same link on a non-school network to confirm whether filtering is involved.

Student access model

Students can usually listen without installing the extension. For a limited rollout, schools often choose:

  1. teachers install and record
  2. students open TAC links in the browser
  3. student recording is enabled later only if the school has approved that workflow

For student privacy and support routing, direct student questions through a teacher, parent, or school admin.

Rollout checklist

  • Pilot with one teacher group.
  • Verify recording, paste-to-player rendering, and plain-link playback.
  • Confirm copied Google Slides assignments keep TAC links in speaker notes or on-slide text.
  • Document the approved support path for students.
  • Expand after IT confirms recording and playback work on managed devices.
